Marc Jacobs cut down thier cost

During the recession, high fashion brand like Marc Jacobs have to cut down their cost too. See all the look from http://www.nytimes.com/packages/html/style/fashionweek/runway.html#/fall_2009_marc_jacobs/slide_show

A couple of weeks ago Marc Jacobs canceled his Fashion Week after-party, so it's not surprising those cutbacks will carry over to the runway show as well. The number of invitees has been cut from 2,000 sits to 700 sits and from 900 standing to 200 standing.

Jacobs's business partner Robert Duffy said the reason he cut off the list to save money, because he'd rather cut back there than lay off employees.

"This isn't the time to spend the money to entertain the entire world…. Everybody thinks it costs the same money to entertain 500 people as opposed to 2,000 [when you've got the space]," Duffy continued. "It doesn't. All those 2,000 people still need to be seated, they still need to check in, this one needs this, that one needs that, and you know what? It's very costly."

Just think of how many security details are needed to save  in the photographer crush.also plans to trim crowd fat by not allowing invitees to bring special guests. For example, editors can't bring their husbands and kids this season.
Hopefully this will be a temporary adjustment, and Marc Jacobs can go back to entertaining the entire world for a night in future seasons.

"I'm not saying it's not going to go back to that, but right now, during this economic environment, it would seem ostentatious for us to continue doing the same thing," Duffy said.

I think that it is amazing that Marc Jacobs is looking out for his employees but cutting back costs of the show instead of laying them off. This just goes to show how committed he is to the fashion industry and how he really in the business to provide the latest fashion trends. By eliminating the amount of individuals allowed to attend his show I believe that it makes the show seem even more prestigious and exciting to go to. So what he cancelled his after party, this has nothing to do with him being extremely successful as a designer!

well as economic recession effects all kinds of businsess, bcz of it many company's they downsize their number of employees, in such case Marc Jacob is better than other, trying to cut their cost from every possible way and carrying business in the same way, instead of downsizing.

It shows he's in business as anybody else not in entertainment. Marc Jacob may be a big name as a fashion designer, but in the end of the day, he is a businessman and as such, has to make day-to-day strategic business decision, even the one you mentioned which worked well as a good PR for Marc, don't you think? In times like these, folks in the luxurious and frivolous fashion industry wants to be perceived as responsible citizens instead of keeping that lavishing image of all-night-party and glamour splashing money everywhere.

Another reason why I adore Marc Jacobs; he acknowledges that it is time to trim the fat and get back to the bare bones of getting things done. Other designers should follow suit.

    Agree with you!
Cutting corners cost-wise is not the end of the world.
Just because Marc Jacbo have to tighten his belt, doesn’t mean it can’t be a stylish one. It simply makes he gets creative.
Just be more resourceful and focus on the more important things in life XD
